Our aim is to protect the health of people living, working and learning in London by raising awareness and improving understanding of the environmental and human health impacts from domestic wood and other solid fuel burning.
Solid fuel burning has been a significant contributor to air pollution in London for over 70 years. Despite improvements in air quality, the air pollution from domestic solid fuel burning has been increasing since 2005.

The London Wood Burning Project has 18 London member boroughs. We work together to share information about solid fuel burning and pollution in London, and knowledge of impacts on health.
In late 2022 we commissioned a survey of residents to understand current attitudes and behaviours around solid fuel burning in London. In 2023 we have conducted a study of indoor and outdoor air quality to see what the impacts are from wood burning in winter. We have also produced an evaluation of the human health impacts of domestic solid fuel burning in London.
When we surveyed residents only a small number of people (29%) with home wood burners and open fires had ever seen information about solid fuel burning and air pollution locally. We want to change this by providing accurate information relevant to the London that we live in today.
We are now able to share the information from our studies, and other reliable scientific sources, in an awareness campaign. Please bookmark us, follow us on Facebook , Instagram , Twitter/X , LinkedIn and let us know what you think of our work.
